Since getting his start in the industry in 2000, Rafael has worked as a writer for Sony, Sega, Ubisoft, Zipper Interactive, Edge of Reality, Slant Six Games, SouthPeak Games, NHN Corporation, XLOC, and 1C Company. He's created storylines, written dialogue, cast and directed voice actors, written and directed cinematic sequences, designed gameplay, and produced soundtracks.

His games include Deep Black, SOCOM 4, SOCOM: Fireteam Bravo 3, MAG, SOCOM: Confrontation, Rainbow Six: Lockdown, Ghost Recon 2, and Ghost Recon 2: Summit Strike.

Rafael is the author of The Game Writing Handbook (which was a finalist for the 2007 Game Developer Front Line Awards), and he's the co-author of Fundamentals of Game Development. He also authored Monster Madness: Battle For Suburbia (a comic book published by Dark Horse), a series of columns at Gamasutra, and several tabletop role-playing games and sourcebooks.

He has been a speaker at the 2006 Game Writers Conference, the 2007 Russian Game Developers Conference in Moscow (where he taught the six-hour master class), the 2008 Montreal International Game Summit, and the 2009 Carolina Games Summit (where he co-delivered the keynote).
